What is the difference between CVV and CVV2?

I've come across some merchant website which either asks for a CVV or a CVV2 number to complete the transaction. I've come across CVV a lot of times but CVV2 seldom. Is there any difference between CVV and CVV2? The only difference I know is CVV is 3 char and CVV2 is 4 char... anything other than this?
