Should Halogen Bulbs be used on a dimmer?

I have 2 Halogen 60 watt cone shaped recessed lights in my bathroom on a dimmer. I went through 4 bulbs in 6 months. I take special can not to touch them when installing them. Does dimmers affect the life span of them? I like the idea of a dimmer in the bathroom but the $7 bulbs are getting expensive
